WWDC06 Predictions

In a few more days Apple will be hosting their annual WWDC. These are my predictions of what Apple will release at the Steve Jobs keynote.

Desktops

New Powermacs - Mac Pros
I am pretty certain that Apple will be releasing the Intel version of the Powermac which will probably be the Mac Pro because of some earlier trademarks filed by Apple. They will have two or three models, one which is the low end pro model with a Core 2 Duo chip, then a mid-range level one probably with a faster Core 2 Duo and the top-of-the line Mac which which I think will have the top Intel chip - the Woodcrest that is in the servers. I think it will be 2 new Dual Core Xeon chips. These might include the new HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disk drives or at least more slots in the case for easy upgrades to a new high definition drive

Notebooks
Macbook Pros
I think that Apple will also release a new upgrade to the pro level laptops which will probably be a faster Intel Core 2 Duo which is the Merome chip at a much faster level. Maybe they will upgrade the RAM on the Macbook Pros to a standard of 1GB as 512 isn't really enough for professionals. I don't think Apple will upgrade the low-end Macbook yet.

Servers
I think Apple will also release the Intel version of their Xserve rack servers. Probably with new Xeon chips like in the Mac Pro.

Displays
In the displays area i think Apple will upgrade the Cinema Displays as they haven't been upgraded for quite a long time. I think they will feature an iSight Camera built into the top just like all the other displays, the Apple remote with Front Row, Photobooth and a glossy screen option.

Mac OS X
It is pretty certain the Apple will at least preview the new version of Mac OS X Leopard. Heres the new features that I think that they will put into it.
-More Windows Integration, i.e virtualization
-A slightly tweaked interface, the darker non-brushed theme like in iLife 06
-Multiple Desktops
-A new redesigned Finder with added features and tabbed browsing
-BitTorrent support across the whole OS and iTunes for distributing files, podcasts, and possibly movies on the iTunes Music Store

iPods
Of course, people always think that Apple will release new iPods at every event but i think it's unlikely, Apple might release a new version of the Nano with video support, maybe NAND memory and other features that have been speculated. Also they might release the full widescreen "Video iPod", maybe touch screen or the new none-touch technology.

I think it's only 3 days until the WWDC begins and I hope we get some good products out of Apple

P.S. the Leopard video is fake
